Founding Marketer
AI Security
San Francisco
This is a chance to build the marketing function, from zero, inside a company started by a team who have already done this once — and sold it for hundreds of millions.
The business
We're working with a San Francisco-based AI security company, founded by a team of repeat operators: a founder who built and scaled a previous application security company to 800 customers and 120 people before selling it to a public infrastructure monitoring giant in a nine-figure deal - and then ran that company's entire security business for close to four years afterward. He's built this team out of people who've been there before: former colleagues from that first company and from their years running security at scale post-acquisition.
They've raised $25M in seed funding from a top-tier venture firm, and have 40 design partners already live on the platform - real companies, from startups to public enterprises, using the product weekly and feeding back into it. The upside is uncapped, and the room to shape the story is wide open.
The category is as hot as it gets right now: AI agents are being weaponised, and security teams have no reliable way to defend against them. This company is building the infrastructure to do exactly that - and the technical moat behind it is genuinely hard to replicate.
Right now, the product is ahead of the story. Sales is closing deals without a website that reflects what the company actually does. That's the opportunity.
The role
Founding Marketer, reporting directly to the CEO, based in San Francisco.
We're open on level, and genuinely so: what matters is that you're the kind of marketer who still wants their hands on the work. Maybe that's because you've never been anything but hands-on - real PMM chops, ideally with exposure to infrastructure, security, or observability buyers, comfortable owning positioning and messaging solo from a blank page. Or maybe you've operated at a more senior level before and never lost the itch to write the deck yourself, sit with sales reps to hear how deals actually get won or lost, and build the function rather than inherit one.
Either path gets you to the same place here: full ownership of how this company is understood by a technical, skeptical market, with room to grow a small team around you as the need becomes real rather than theoretical.
What matters more than the label on your last title:

What matters more than the label on your last title:
- Genuine fluency with technical buyers — this is a security-and-infrastructure sale, the space is loud, and messaging that doesn't land with technical audiences won't work here. Domain background in security specifically isn't required, but real exposure to infrastructure, security, observability, or DevOps buyers is.
- Comfort with ambiguity. There's no fully built-out GTM machine to plug into. You're building the machine.
- A track record that mixes some structure (you've seen what "good" looks like at scale) with genuine startup instinct (you're not waiting for permission or process).
- Founding-level scope with a founder who has built and sold a company in this exact space before, and knows precisely what good marketing looks like.
- A product with real technical moat and real customers already live — you're not inventing a story, you're sharpening one that already has substance.
- Compensation is genuinely open and will flex to the calibre of person — this is a search built around finding the right person, not filling a fixed band.
- The kind of upside that only exists at true seed-stage, sub-15-person companies — increasingly rare to find paired with a team this experienced.
