Hi, my name is Serena and I'm a Researcher within 3Search’s dedicated executive search practice – 3Search Executive.  

As a search firm, we specialise in headhunting for Marketing, Sales, Customer Success & Revenue Operations leaders across the consumer, services, technology industries as well as in the sports, media and entertainment world. In my role, I support the search process for key hires, working closely with PE-backed companies in early-stage growth phases through to large scale corporations with international reach.

With a degree in psychology, I have always taken a keen interest in learning how people think about the world around them. I love what I do in recruitment, as I’m able to support people in making those all-important decisions about their careers. 

The biggest mistake I see candidates making is a lack of thought behind their next career move. People often simply consider what titles or companies they would like to join. However, you should also consider: 

  • Does the company culture speak to you? By culture I don’t mean, perks such as healthcare and bake sales, but do their values align with yours?  Will you feel purpose-driven and proud to be an ambassador?  
  • What impact do you want to have?  For example, do you want to turn around an underperforming team, drive financial growth or prepare a company for a sale? Knowing this will help target your search, and best articulate your strengths during interviews 
  • What level of flexibility do you need to balance your personal and professional lives? Something candidates are often nervous to consider is flexibility. But it’s important to consider whether you can realistically commit to the role and deliver for the company under their expectations. 

It can be easy to be distracted by ‘shiny’ objects when interviewing. But understanding your purpose, strengths and what you can bring to an interview will ensure you present confidently, ask the right questions and feel assured when you say ‘yes’ when the time comes!
