What does a Product Marketing Manager do?

The Product Marketing Manager role is responsible for creating and delivering a go-to-market strategy for new products and features.

Bridging the gap between sales and product teams, this marketing role defines the market positioning, leads go-to-market campaigns and delivers collateral to sales teams.

Key responsibilities

The day-to-day activities will look different for Product Marketers in each business, however the core responsibilities include:

  • Market research: Conduct market research to gather market trends, comprehensive customer insights and build buyer personas.
  • Define product positioning: Working closely with the product team and using customer data, develop product positioning that differentiates in a competitive landscape.
  • Create clear messaging: Ensure all messaging is consistent and effectively communicates how the product solves customer pain points.
  • Content production: Create internal and external content that compliments the sales process, including demonstrations, case studies and guides.
  • Go-to-market strategy: Develop and execute go-to-market (GTM) plans for product launches and feature updates.
  • Performance analysis: Monitor the performance of marketing campaigns and report based on product marketing KPIs. 
  • Collaborate across teams: Work across the product, marketing and sales teams to ensure cohesion between the cross-functional team.
