Solution: Identifying the hiring challenge before finding fixes for them
Specialist design recruiter, Yasmin Vachet, approached the project as a consultative search focused on solving a business challenge rather than filling a role.
Her work included:
- Reviewing and refining the brief to ensure hiring expectations aligned with market realities.
- Advising on salary positioning and seniority expectations within the UK market.
- Conducting talent mapping across multiple UK locations.
- Building and presenting a targeted shortlist of product design professionals.
- Managing a time-sensitive process involving stakeholders based in both the UK and Australia.
Throughout the search, we continuously calibrated candidate profiles against the evolving requirements of the business, ensuring decision-making remained informed by real-time market feedback.
Yasmin acted as a strategic partner throughout the process, helping Magentus navigate several challenges that were preventing successful hiring. One of the most significant contributions was providing detailed salary benchmarking and market insight, helping the business understand how senior Product and Design talent was positioned within the UK market and where expectations required adjustment.
When the initial talent pool in London did not deliver the calibre of candidates required, we challenged location assumptions and explored alternative hiring strategies. Working closely with the hiring team, we mapped the Manchester market and introduced a new pool of highly relevant candidates.
Balancing pace with rigour was equally important. Significant time-zone differences between the UK and Australia created operational challenges, so we established proactive communication channels, maintained regular stakeholder engagement and ensured momentum never stalled throughout the process.
We also presented candidates across a range of experience levels and compensation expectations, giving the business confidence that they were evaluating the strongest available talent in the market.
