Why are more businesses hiring CRM marketers on 6-month contracts?

3 minutes

Six-month contracts have traditionally sat between short-term cover and long-term interim assignments. However, over the past few months, Senior Recruitment Consultant, Taylor Nash, has seen an increase in demand for six-month contractors across CRM, lifecycle marketing, and digital transformation.

So, what's driving the shift? Taylor says there are four key reasons we’re seeing an increase in 6-month FTCs. Keep reading to learn more and whether or not they could support your business growth.

Common contract lengths for marketers

Six-month contracts do not tend to be the most common duration for interim marketers. According to the results of our 2026 Annual Pay & Hiring Report, 44% of candidates prefer a contract length of 12 months.

Here's a breakdown of what contract length suits your marketing needs:

Contract length
Scenrio
Why?
1-3 monthsProject-based work (e.g. technical audit or campaign launch)
With focused resource, 90 days tend to be sufficient to support a short-term project.
3-6 months
In-house role trial (e.g. first hire for a new marketing channel, such as paid search)
Although the groundwork can be completed in 90 days, 6 months is recommended to see the impact of these roles.
6-12 monthsComplex, longer-term project (e.g. fractional hire to support in-house team members)
With more complex projects, longer contracts give teams stability.

So, why are we seeing an increase in 6-month requirements? Specialist CRM contract recruitment consultant, Taylor Nash, has identified the trends and says growth is for these four reasons.

#1 Growth in digital transformation projects

Currently, businesses are heavily investing in digital transformation projects, especially in CRM and customer lifecycle. As such, companies need experienced practitioners who can quickly join their team and deliver value.

They're looking for Junior to Senior Manager-level hires with hands-on experience to assess existing programmes, introduce best practice and improve customer communications. 6-month contracts allow them to do this without committing to a permanent hire before the project scope is fully defined.

#2 CRM implementations and migrations are creating demand

Alongside these digital transformation programmes, brands are investing in new CRM platforms to keep up with new AI capabilities. Whether upgrading existing platforms or migrating to entirely new systems, specialist talent is essential to ensure a smooth transition.

Contract professionals are being brought in to lead implementation projects, manage stakeholder engagement, and train internal teams. Interim CRM Managers are helping businesses maximise their investment while keeping projects on track.

#3 New skill requirements for senior roles

We’re also seeing growth in 6-month requirements for more senior hires. This is driven by the number of brands launching new products, entering new markets or exploring growth opportunities that require skills they don't currently have in-house.

In the consumer and FMCG sectors, we're helping brands engage senior contract talent to define launch strategies, build roadmaps, and establish processes before deciding what the long-term team structure should look like.

#4 Budget pressures encourage flexible hiring

We are quickly approaching the end of the financial year, whether that’s January-January or April-April, hiring budgets often come under greater scrutiny at this point.

A 3–6-month contract is a practical way to utilise budget, access specialist expertise and continue delivering key projects.
